Outdoor Dog Photoshoots - When is the best time of year? (Copy)
I’m often asked when is the best time to book an outdoor photoshoot for a dog. Almost every season has something lovely to offer. Whether it’s shoots among the spring flowers, a summer beach shoot, autumn colours, or winter frosts and clear skies I can always find something to make your outdoor photoshoot special and create memorable images that you will treasure.
But some particular photo sessions that I offer - like dogs among the bluebells or the magnolia blosson shot - have a rather short time window and/or may involve a bit of travel. There’s nothing sadder than having to tell a client who’d set their heart on a particular shoot that they’ve missed the boat for a year. But with a bit of advance planning that needn’t happen.
Read on and let’s get something in the diary in good time if one of these shoots takes your fancy…
MAGNIFICENT MAGNOLIA
Where: Hampshire This is a one location shot. There are loads of magnolia up and down the country but few if any have blossom low enough to the ground to frame a little dog.
When: for one week in mid-late March
When to book: call me in early March to enquire about a shot. We’ll need to play it by ear a bit because the timing of the display depends a lot on spring weather.
The Bluebell Woods
Where: Surrey, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, and on request in Norfolk
I know lots of Surrey locations for bluebell shoots in and around my Richmond base. The Hampshire, Hertfordshire and Norfolk locations are a little further afield but some truly spectacular landscapes.
When: May, at best for a week or two
When to book: call in late April, or earlier if you can for shoots outside Surrey
AMONG THE POPPIES
Where: usually Hampshire, and Norfolk
When: June
When to book: call in May - June and we’ll get something in the diary
LAVENDER FIELDS
Where: On request in Norfolk and Hertfordshire. The locations change from year to year but there are always plenty of lovely options about.
When: July
When to book: ideally call in June as the shoot will involve a bit of travel
I hope some of these options inspire you to get in touch in good time if you’d like your own dog to enjoy a photoshoot in these iconic locations. But don’t worry if you’ve missed the boat this year - there are scores of other less time sensitive options for photoshoots among the flowers and stunning outdoor locations. Snowdrops at the end of winter, Oxeye Daisies among the grasses, wildflower meadows in high summer, Boston ivy for a spectacular autumn colour…
