Why Madaboutgreys?
I’m sometimes asked why did I call my business “Madaboutgreys”? In fact many people probably wonder about it but are too polite to ask. Here is the back story.
It all started with a greyhound, over a decade ago. I walked into a local greyhound rescue with the vague thought of volunteering in my spare time. It was an afternoon that changed my life! I began to help the rescue by taking photographs of the greyhounds in search of homes and soon adopted my own greyhound, Jasmine, who became my muse and inspiration. One of my photographs of her won a place in the prestigious Dog Photographer of the Year competition. Suddenly everyone wanted me to photograph their dogs… So that was how Madaboutgreys Photography began.
Though I specialise in sighthound and greyhound photography, I love photographing all breeds of dogs, as well as cats, horses, and pets of all sorts. I must have photographed many hundreds of creatures over the past decade, in my studio in Richmond, West London, or out on location in the beautiful local countryside.
Jasmine died some years ago at the ripe old age of fourteen. But her legacy lives on! In the years since we first adopted Jasmine we have fostered many other rescued sighthounds in need. I also support several sighthound charities through pro bono photographic work.
And we have always had a sighthound or two of our own in the house. I now share my life with Polly, adopted as a loopy but lovely saluki cross, who has matured into the most sweet-natured, sensitive, and empathetic creature. She is a willing model, particularly when treats are involved, and you will find her in loads of my pictures…
Van Gogh once wrote “That which is done with love is well done”. This is where my heart lies, photographing these precious creatures who give us so much and enrich our lives immeasurably. I hope that love shines through in my photographic work; I believe is it the source of the Madaboutgreys magic.
The late and greatly missed Jasmine, the dog who started my love affair with greyhounds, my muse and inspiration. Without her Madaboutgreys Photography would never have happened.
